Scarves with a mission
Between my visits to suppliers, I just wonder about a question someone recently asked me: how do you want to improve the world with your company? I am fully aware of the fact that I won’t move mountains, as a starter. But I do want to move at least some stones in the river with my scarf business!
I thought a lot about the core values of Fulardo:
Love. Cherish. Connect.
Love for the design and the making of… Cherish a beautiful product that can survive generations. Connect people who love scarves …
Improving the world
Now I have a specific aspiration to make the world better, inspired by a special scarf-lady. In 2014, the 17-year-old Malala Yousafzai won the Nobel Peace Prize. With her continuous struggle for education for all children, this Pakistani girl put her own life at risk. I strongly advise you to read her life story: I am Malala. For Malala, the scarf is a special piece of garment: “On my 16th birthday, I was in New York and gave a speech for the United Nations. … I wore one of Benazir Bhutto’s (her role model) white scarves with my favourite pink shalwar camie and I called on world leaders to make free education possible for all children anywhere in the world. ”
“One child, one teacher, one book and pen …
… can change the world.” Because I share this conviction, I want to contribute with Fulardo. I’m going to donate a part of the business profits to an initiative in this area. One of the possibilities is the Malala Yousafzai fund itself, but I am also open to other suggestions. Mail me if you think of a project that offers children the quality education they deserve.
